A New Entry-level Copper Rod Caster

Rautomead of Dundee, UK, has developed an entry-level continuous copper rod casting machine which offers the company's proprietary casting technology, but at a lower capacity (3,600 tpy) than usual and at what is said to be a very competitive cost. Using a chopped cathode feed, the RSCC model has been specifically designed for the production of oxygen-free copper (CuOF) and copper-silver wire rod. It is available in two configurations: a 4-strand machine making 8 mm diameter rod for high-quality wire drawing, and a 3-strand machine for 12-22 mm rod for continuous extrusion feedstock. The machines have several key features: graphite crucible technology to ensure low (<5 ppm) oxygen content; easily-maintained electrical resistance heating; the capability of emptying liquid metal from the furnace in case of a power cut; automatic safety features lifting coolers out of the melt if there is a power cut; automatic coiling of rod; and automatic recording of key operating parameters.
