PATIENTS D'ORIGINE MUSULMANE : REFLEXIONS SUR LA DIVERSITÉ

Les patients d'origine musulmane déroutent parfois les soignants du fait de leur diversité. Afin d'améliorer notre compréhension, nous avons organisé cinq colloques où nous avons invité successivement un représentant de Bosnie, de Kossove, de Somalie, du Kurdistan turc et du Pakistan pour partager avec un groupe de soignants son expérience des liens qui existent dans son pays entre la santé, la culture et la religion. Dans notre pratique clinique quotidienne, il convient de tenir compte de plusieurs éléments: l'importance de la dimension religieuse et culturelle, le rôle du chef de famille dans la prise de décision pour le patient, les différentes représentations du «bon médecin», les explications données au pourquoi des maladies, la place des médecines traditionnelles, et, avant tout, la difficulté, pour le soignant, de se représenter la différence des cultures et des individus.%Patients of Muslim origin often puzzle health workers because of their diversity. In order to improve our understanding, we organized five interviews where a person from either Bosnia, Kossove, Somalia, Kurdistan or Pakistan was invited to meet with a group of health workers in order to share personal experience related to the existing links, in his or her own country, between health, culture and religion. These interviews emphasised several important aspects to be considered in our daily clinical practice: the religious dimension, the role of the family head in making decisions for the patient, the different representations of a «good doctor», the explanations about why illness occurs, the role of traditional medicine, and, above all, the difficulty, for the health workers, to figure diffe- fences between cultures and between individuals.
