Hybrid sleeve for applying active and static compression to a limb

A hybrid compression garment (10) for applying both active and static compression to a limb (L) has been developed by Tyco Healthcare. The device could be used, for instance, to treat venous insufficiency or oedema, to heal wounds and to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT). As US Patent 8 162 869 explains, a connecting device on the sleeve (14) enables connection to a machine (20) that transmits a force to the sleeve that constricts it without inflating the sleeve to apply active compression to the limb.
