In summary, it is important to consider whether or not Newton (this issue) has accomplished his two goals. Our view is that he has provided a clarification of the concept of validity. From the lens of progress in measurement based on epistemic iterations, he has provided a helpful snapshot of a consensus definition that can lay the foundation for the next iteration. Newton has presented a useful description of how the concept of validity has changed over time, and his views are bound to stimulate additional debate and discussion on one of the foundational ideas in measurement in the human sciences.
