We have developed a method for rapidly obtaining two-dimensional distributions of melanin, oxyhemoglobin, and deoxyhemoglobin concentrations in skin tissues from images in spectral regions with central wavelengths 460, 522, 560, 580, 610, and 740 nm. The method is based on multiple regressions between the spectral brightness of pixels in the skin image and certain parameters established by numerical modeling of the process of radiation transport in skin tissue with wide variation in the skin parameters. We show that when a priori information is available about the scattering properties of skin, we can determine the melanin and hemoglobin concentrations from images taken by a color CCD camera.
