Single crystals of the semiorganic NLO material, lithium hydrogen oxalate monohydrate was grown and characterized by using single crystal X-ray diffraction. Spectroscopic, thermal and optical studies were earned out. These studies show that the crystals are thermally stable up to 100 ℃, transparent for the fundamental and second harmonic generation of Nd:YAG (λ = 1064 nm) laser. Second harmonic generation (SHG) conversion efficiency was investigated to explore the NLO characteristics of this material and it was found that the efficiency is about 91% of that of the standard KDP crystals. Laser damage threshold study was also carried out.
