The threat of heavy metal pollution to human health has aroused widespread concern. It is urgent to develop efficient adsorbents to treat this pollution and the nanomaterials made from natural resources and also friendly to environment are highly acclaimed. This study reports the preparation and application of green tea polyphenol nanoparticles for Pb2+ removal. The nanoparticles were obtained through polyphenolic condensation and as adsorbents with abundant hydroxy groups, they exhibited a high removal efficiency (90%) and maximum adsorption capacity up to 584.8 mg/g. The relevant adsorption studies including the effect of pH, temperature and concentration as well as adsorption kinetics all indicated that the tea polyphenol nanoparticles were promising as novel green adsorbents for efficiently removing Pb2+ from wastewater.
