Congo River launch continues tradition

The launch ceremony for the 30,000m3 trailing suction hopper dredger Congo River took place at the IHC Merwede shipyard in Krimpen aan den Ijssel in The Netherlands. The contract between DEME NV and IHC Dredgers BV for the design, construction, and delivery of the ship was signed in December 2OO8.The keel laying took place on 15 December 2009.The Congo River will be commissioned in the middle of this year and will be named during a formal ceremony in Zeebrugge on 8 July 2011. The name Congo River continues the series of names chosen for the company's key trailers such as the world's first'jumbo'trailer Pearl River, as well as Nile River and Amazone.
