Traditional honing equipment and honing meth-' ods have been adapted to the wear type that commonly appears in cylinder liners. This can be ovality, trumpet shape, glazing and normal wear taken care of by regular maintenance. For the larger two stroke liners this traditional equipment has not the capability to fully restore a scuffed liner with damaged hard phase and a hardened surface. Chris- Marine has therefore, in cooperation with engine-builders and end-users, developed a method and a new honing machine to restore big bore scuffed liners to specified surface structure in shortest possible time.
