IHC Holland Merwede has recently completed the 'Reynaert', a 5600 m~3 trailing suction hopper dredger. She is a sister vessel of "Marieke", which was delivered in June 2006. Both these vessels are an upscaled version of the 'Pallieter', which was delivered by IHC in 2004. The three vessels are owned by Dredging International, a Belgian company belonging to the DEME group. DEME is an acronym for Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering. With the 'Reynaert', the DEME group will have 19 trailing suction hopper dredgers in its fleet. The name-giving ceremony of the 'Reynaert' took place at the IHC Merwede yard in Kinderdijk on 20 November 2006. The buildrncontract was signed in April 2005 and her keel was officially laid on 13 June 2006. The 'Reynaert' is designed for working in shallow water as commonly is the case in port maintenance, beach suppletion and land reclamation projects. With the design of the vessel a high degree of versatility was achieved by maintaining a relatively low weight of the vessel - and thus relatively shallow draught -combined with a high load capacity.
