An extensive refit at Shipdock in Amsterdam, close to the ship owner's home base, has made the Carolien fit for many years of trawling to come. The focus of the improvements has been on the environment, by changing to an envi-ronmentally more friendly cooling sys-tem, and on the wellbeing of the crew, which will benefit from upgraded crew cabins and dry workwear at the start of the day. On 29 November 2010, the Carolien sailed through the Noordzee-channel towards Umuiden, where provi-sions were taken onboard and prepara-tions were made for the sea trials and re-entry into service. With the choice for NH~3 and CO_2 for the freezing system, the owners have opted for a future-proof system, as it is currently the most envi-ronmentally friendly solution with regards to the emissions of greenhouse gases.
