Gate terminal opened

The new Gate (Gas Acces to Europe) terminal was festively opened at the Maasvlakte on 23 September 2011. The initiative by Gasunie and Vopak has created the first independently operating LNG terminal in the Netherlands. The terminal, built completely according to the scheduled plan, has been extensively tested. During the so called commissioning phase, three vessels docked. The last vessel, Al Samriya, was 345 metres long and 55 metres broad. They unloaded the liquid natural gas, made fluid by processing and cooling to 160 degrees below zero, which results in a 600 time decrease in volume and means it can be easily transported.
