Nexus launched at Damen

On 30 June 2014 Van Oord's new DP2 cable-laying vessel Nexus was launched at Damen Shipyards Galati, Romania. Van Oord will deploy the 123 metre long vessel for the installation of electricity cables for offshore wind farms. The design of Nexus is based on the Damen Offshore Carrier 7500, a multipurpose vessel that has spacious working space and is ideal for heavy lift or RoRo transport, and it has offshore installation capabilities as well. Nexus will be deployed with a huge cable carousel, which will be able to carry over 5,000 tonnes of cable.
