First ever LNG-powered cement carrier with LNG tanks integrated in the hull

On Wednesday 23 December 2015, mv Greenland left the harbour of Delfzijl on her first commercial voyage to Rostock, where she will receive her first cement load. Only the week before, Ferus Smit handed mv Greenland over to her new owners, JT Cement AS. Prior to the delivery, an extensive programme of commissioning, sea trials and performance tests was conducted, during which the proper functioning and safety of all systems were verified and confirmed. Witnessed by a large audience, the naming ceremony of yard number 423 was performed on Saturday 31 October by Ase Espeland, partner of Petter Tronstad, CEO of KGJ cement. After the ceremony, the vessel was successfully launched sideways from the transverse slipway of the Ferus Smit facilities in Westerbroek.
