Equipped with one of the largest dry docks in Europe and located in Rotterdam and with direct access to the North Sea, Keppel Verolme has been the yard of choice for many seagoing vessels and floating offshore units in the region. Keppel Verolme has recently finished maintenance and upgrading activities of the Royal Dutch Navy's Landing Platform Dock amphibious ship, Zr. Ms. Johan de Witt. Zr. Ms. Johan de Witt can transport a full battalion of marines, which includes 500 soldiers and their equipment, vehicles and smaller vessels. Built in 2006, this was the vessel's second drydock maintenance programme in Keppel Verolme's drydock number five. The vessel has undergone a full overhaul which included repairs and inspections on the equipment, tanks, propulsion, valves, electrical installation and cabling. In addition, Keppel Verolme has carried out extensive underwater painting works as well as touching up the vessel's hull.
