Elections put new leaders on maritime committees

Voters, unhappy with a sluggish economy, swept out a number of long-time Congressional maritime industry stalwarts during the mid-term elections on November 2. While the impact on the maritime industry is unclear, there will be a number of new faces on key industry committees, points out K&L Gates in its Maritime Practice newsletter. Among those ousted during the elections were Rep. Jim Oberstar (D.-Minn), chairman of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.), chairman of the House Armed Service Committee, and Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.), Chairman of the House Armed Services Seapower Subcommittee.
