Marine communications technology has come a long way from the days of Marconi and the Morse key-and perhaps an equally long way from the days of the early Inmarsat (and even before that Comsat) analog satcom systems with their humongous antennas. Though the original Inmarsat-A analog service soldiered on until 2007 before going the way of the eight-track, these days, for an ever-increasing number of vessel operators the name of the game is maritime Very Small Apeture VSAT. That reflects a soaring thirst for connectivity.
