Court finds in favor of Matson in foreign rebuild case

A U.S. Federal court in Virginia ruled in favor of Matson Navigation Company, Inc., Oakland, Calif., and the U.S. Coast Guard in a long-running case surrounding whether steel work performed in a Chinese shipyard on one of Matson's container-ships violated foreign rebuild regulations in U.S. coastwise laws, commonly referred to as the Jones Act.rnIf the work at the Chinese yard had been found to violate Jones Act regulations, the vessel would have permanently lost its U.S. coastwise privileges.
