Methanol as a Marine Fuel: Another Road to Compliance

WITH THE DEADLINE set for IMO's global 0.5% sulfur cap at 2020, LNG-fueled ships are likely to become more economically viable, as shipping is forced to kick its heavy fuel oil (HFO) habit. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) makes the most sense for new-builds as retrofitting ships has proven impractical for some existing vessels. But, according to Canada's Methanex Corporation, there is another alternative fuel solution.
