LNG From the Barents SEA

By the end of the decade, around 70 LNG cargoes will be shipped each year from a new terminal in the Barents Sea. Shipments of LPG and condensate will also be made from the terminal which is being built for the Snohvit project on Melkoya Island near Hammerfest, in northern Norway. This is the first full-scale LNG export terminal in Europe, and will be the most northerly such plant in the world, when it starts operation in 2006. The new terminal will handle LNG, LPG and condensate from the Snohvit, Albatross and Askeladd fields in the Barents Sea. These offshore fields are being developed by subsea wells connected by a 160km subsea pipeline to the land terminal. The entire gas liquefaction plant is being assembled on a barge at the Dragados yard in Cadiz, southern Spain; with the barge being towed to the field site during 2005. The terminal project includes two 120 000m~3 LNG storage tanks, a 45 000m~3 LPG tank and a 75 000m~3 tank for the storage of condensate, together with a loading jetty.
