Ge gained considerable field experience with the 1983 uprate of the LM2500 and therefore was able to conduct a thorough evaluation of that engine's performance characteristics. It was determined that a 3% power uprate could be accommodated within that engine's architecture, with no sacrifice in component life or reliability. That uprate was put in place in the late 1980s.
