Technological development of the Indian Navy

The technological growth of the Indian Navy has far outpaced the numerical growth of ships in the short period of 50 years. The credit for this rapid modernisation goes to the naval planners, defence research laboratories, the ship building yards, the ancillary marine industry, not to forget the government. From a one dimensional, slow speed, gun-armed flotilla in 1947 has emerged a mammoth three dimensional, quick response, missile-armed navy with over 100 ships.
