Technological developments in the Indian pulp & paper industry during the last decade

The Indian business environment is in an upswing mood. India's GDP has been growing, on an average at a rate of 8-9% during the last few years. Corporate balance sheets are larger and profits are higher, giving financial strength to the industry. The shock of globalization, increasing demand of better quality, bigger purchasing power of the middle class, easy availability of capital and fierce competitive market economy have changed the mindset of the entrepreneurs. More and more paper mills have taken up expansion and modernization and are adopting energy friendly and environmentally sound pulping and bleaching technologies and looking at cleaner energy generation. Competition between the mills is increasing. New green field/brown field waste paper based mills are coming up of capacities ranging from 300 to 500 TPD. This article gives an over-view of the technological evolution taking place in the Indian pulp and paper industry during the last decade.
