摘要

The shortage of young people entering the marine industry has been widely discussed over the past few years, but in the view of newcomer Sam Cobb, this is not because the career is unappealing, rather it is due to a lack of publicity. Cobb, who recently qualified as an officer of the watch, said: "99%ofthepeoplel wentto school with probably wouldn't have any idea what happens on ships - it's not pushed as a career. It's a niche group, because unless you've lived by the sea or have an interest in it, it's not the natural choice." He believes that more advertising and bringing industry representatives into schools to talkto students could helpto improve the situation.
