Ⅰ. Main Engine Automatic Starting Air Stop Valve Failure

As the vessel was approaching an anchorage,the main engine was stopped once and then restarted at Dead Slow Ahead,when the main starting air reservoir low pressure alarm sounded.Thus,the reservoir air pressure was immediately checked locally,and since the pressure kept dropping,the reservoir's root valve to the main engine as well as the automatic staring air stop valve were closed.After this,two crew members were stationed at the automatic starting air stop valve and the reservoir root valve for emergency maneuvering,with the stop valve being operated automatically.After the vessel was anchored,the automatic starting air stop valve was examined and the following were found:The piston(2)and the piston ring(23)had no lubrication,and the inner surface of the cylinder had some rust on it.
