The Retail Confectioners International (RCI) Fall Regional Conference was held recently in Nashville, Tennessee. Mixing education sessions with many fun opportunities in Nashville, the group also toured area confectionery companies. Beth Sachan (Goo Goo Cluster) shared various legends about the confection's name, some of its history and the families connected to it, plus the reasons for transitions in the midst of this 107-year-old confection. Goo Goo Cluster is reported to be the nation's first combination candy bar. She also talked about the way the company has been marketed, especially since it opened a retail operation in 2014 — recruiting local chefs for designer desserts, creating billboards to attract tourists, using Instagram, various tie-ins with local attractions (Nashville Symphony, Andrew Jackson's Hermitage, an area winery) and events like the Waitress musical.
