Speciality Fibres III: Alginate Fibre

摘要

The 21st century is environmentally focussed. Despite the popularity of completely synthetic fibres, in many cases attention is once again being focussed on synthetic fibres based on natural renewable resources. This series features few such textile fibres from natural world and their significance in Technical Textiles. The earlier articles have discussed about the definition, properties, structure and applications of soya fibres and the spider silk as specialty fibres. This paper gives an in-depth look to another such specialty fibre viz., Alginate Fibres. The application of alginate fibres in various fields is described while its applications in the medical textile field are explicated in details.
