A New Technique of Manufacture, Preservation & Application of Vegetable Dyes in Bulk for Rural Cottage Industries

Due to the eco-friendliness, vegetable dyes are being encouraged globally, now a days. Vegetable dyes have a good demand in the market in India and abroad, especially on the traditional handloom textiles. The major drawbacks of vegetable dyes are: very meager amount of actual dye content in the source, lack of proper technology for bulk production, non-availability of some of the vegetable dyes throughout the year (because of their seasonal nature), severe difficulty in the preservation of dyes for one year or more, etc. In this article, a scientific approach has been made for the manufacture, preservation and application of vegetable dyes in bulk for the rural cottage industries, especially, rural handloom sectors, by eliminating almost all the inherent lacuna of this class of natural dyes. This can be done in large scale, if and only if, this is performed through co-operative basis. It is the co-operative society (an N.G.O.) that has to play a vital role to fulfill this mission.
