Leading Asian Businesses to Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Management: A Case Study

Industrial growth is fueling rapid economic growth in Asia and lifting millions of people out of poverty. The growth is all but sustainable, given the unprecedented depletion of resources and pollution of the environment. Of particular concern is the rise in energy demand. According to the World Energy Outlook 2006, world energy demand will be 50% higher in 2030, mainly in Asia.1 The increase in energy-related carbon emissions is expected to follow a similar pattern, and these greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions cause a rise in atmospheric temperature and contribute to climate change.
