The examples above from NASA AQAST members combine in situ and remotely sensed data with numerical simulations to attribute O_3 events measured at ground monitoring sites to three specific sources of background O_3: wildfires, stratospheric intrusions, and Asian pollution. Air agencies can use these integrated analyses to support "exceptional event" claims for situations where multiple lines of evidence indicate that the event would not have occurred but for the influence of sources outside of their control. NASA AQAST is working to make these tools and analysis techniques publicly available.
