When the iPhone kicked off the smartphone revolution in 2007, one of many long-term side effects was the promotion of mobile audio. Headphones have never been as popular as they are now that everyone has in effect got an iPod in their pocket. And since mobile gadgets breed wireless connectivity, it's hardly surprising that the Bluetooth wireless standard was opened up to allow better-quality stereo audio with Bluetooth advanced audio distribution profile, or A2DP. Before this, Bluetooth audio was mono and resolutely telephone quality. Now it's impossible to move for Bluetooth wireless speakers, many of them as cheap as £20 to £50. You can't expect much, if any, audio fidelity for that money - but what about when you put your hand in your pocket for as much as £300?
