What do you do? I'm a senior software engineer serving as the tech lead for the Mac version of Google Chrome. Most of what I do involves interfacing with the system at the lower levels. I'm comfortable poking around in the kernel and in core system libraries. Large and complex applications like Chrome wind up needing to do a surprising amount of this sort of thing. Since Chrome is also a cross-platform program, I'm often involved in designing to the capabilities (and around the drawbacks) of several operating systems. This can be a very different experience from writing a typical Mac-only or iOS-only application, but it's also very rewarding.
