AN UNUSUAL 4-2-OST

Recently, I had the good fortune to acquire a builder's photo (above) of an unusual 3' 6" gauge Manning & Wardle 4-2-OST locomotive built in 1868 for an unknown railway in Peru. Narrow gauge locomotives have a special appeal but my real interest was in filling a gap in the history of railway development in that country.Details on Works No. 246 together with a line drawing are provided in The locomotives built by the Manning & Wardle Company, Volume 1 Narrow Gauge by Fred W. Harman. Further information is in an article that appeared in L113 by the same author. It was noted that the original builder's photo could not be found when these were published so I can now remedy this situation and provide further information on its probable destination.
