The social unrest in North Africa and the Middle East has served to boost interest in LNG. For the gas buyer LNG opens up a vast range of options. Gas can be sourced from one or more of over 20 LNG export terminals worldwide. LNG also frees the buyer of concerns about whether or not pipeline deliveries will be halted due to political fallout. Four years ago, during the 'dash for gas', the Shtokman project proposed for the Russian Arctic was poised to join the growing list of LNG export schemes.
