The most ambitious of the LNG-fuelled vessel projects to date is the Viking Line plan to run its new 57,000 gross ton (gt) passenger/car ferry Viking Grace on natural gas. The €240 million (US$315 million) ship, which is due to be delivered from the STX Europe yard in Turku, Finland in January 2013, will be the company's largest passenger ferry to date and the largest vessel that is not an LNG carrier to run on LNG. The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications has proposed that Viking Line be granted €20 million (US$26 million) towards the construction of Viking Grace, or two-thirds of this year's state budget for environment-friendly projects.
