Debates about shipping's contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming have recently stepped up in intensity. This wider debate is not one that can be resolved easily, and there is a strong argument that other emissions, in particular sulphur, are more pressing for shipping than carbon. But, in a wider political context, carbon emissions is the hotter topic.
