摘要

AS/NZS1158.3.1 Lighting for Roads and Public Spaces, Pedestrian area (Category P) Lighting - Performance and Design Requirements has recently had a major update and was published on 21st February 2020. The lighting of roads and footpaths and to a lesser extent public places such as town malls and parks, generally goes unnoticed by the public or at best is taken for granted 365 nights of the year until there is an outage or there is a safety concern. In Australia and New Zealand the lighting levels for Category P (Cat P) roads and pathways are mostly low when compared with those of Europe and North America. Notwithstanding low values of illuminance, this lighting represents a significant investment that largely comes from local government, using tax payer's money. Getting value for money means selecting the most appropriate lighting sub-category and therefore the light technical parameters (LTPs). This can be a fine balance between having enough light on the task, minimising glare, having a choice for different scenarios that may change over time, and not being too costly or impractical. In addition, it is essential that the public should feel safe.
