Go-ahead for Calgary Green line LRT

A visit to Calgary by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on 7 July was the occasion for the city to formally agree a revised business plan for the 20km (12.5-mile) Green line light rail, unlocking CAD1.53bn (EUR1.03bn) in provincial funding and CAD1.53bn in matching federal funds. The city will contribute CAD1.59bn (EUR1.07bn) to the CAD4.9bn (EUR3.3bn) project. The future Green line will run from 16th Avenue North on the surface along Central Street to a bridge over the Bow River before going into a subway at 2nd Avenue Southwest. Three subway stops will serve the city centre before the line comes to the surface at 4th Street Southeast to cross the Elbow River at Ramsay before running south-east along the MacLeod Trail to Shepard.
