Guangzhou begins work on six new metro projects

A ceremony on 19 November launched work on six new metro lines in the capital of the Chinese province of Guangdong (population 11.5m), a CNYlOObn (EUR12.77bn) plan that will add 111.7km (71 miles) and 67 stations by 2023. The city already has a 13-line metro, with 15 further projects, totalling 421.2km (261.7 miles), under construction. The new projects include:1. A 9.6km (six-mile) extension of line 3 between Panya Square and Haishu, adding four stations, due to open in 2022.2. A 9.8km (6.1-mile) extension of line 5 from Wenchong to Huangpu Ferry Terminal with six new stations.
