摘要

The special issue on streaming video reacts to the long-term importance of online access to audiovisual resources for access to information, education and knowledge. It provides an insight into an extremely dynamic ongoing development in libraries, film archives, and public service broadcasters and in the film, media and information science research and teaching. The regional focus is on Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland, the content focus on access to films of international filmmaking with international distribution. The articles are divided into five parts: (1) I. video streaming in libraries and access to audiovisual heritage; (2) II. cooperation with external providers of video streaming services for libraries; (3) III. film archives and access to film heritage; (4) IV. media libraries of public broadcasters and opening of archives as well as (5) V. video streaming in teaching, research and development.
