Unfortunately, this is an all too common situation in libraries, historic or not. Restricted budgets and administrative attitudes preclude changing furniture until forced to do so. The furniture here had been purchased prior to the advent of PCs and workstations. Baron's complaints struck a chord with her coworker, and her ideas are worth pursuing. The ultimate goal should be to improve the working environment. Therefore, the staff will have to convince Belasko that it would be good for the library and staff. The employees need to prepare a reasonable proposal, with practical suggestions for improving their working conditions.
