I've beeen a faithful nextgen reader for some time now, and while perusing one of the recent NextGen columns, I realized what it was that had been nagging me about the column for several months: its negativity. Again and again, I come across inflexible "older" librarians stifling new ideas, difficult and often fruitless job searches, and miserable salaries. Don't get me wrong. These columns are often enlightening and instructive. But had I been an LIS student with the NextGen column as my only window into the life of a new librarian, I probably would've found a different graduate degree to pursue.
