The 28th annual Charleston (SO Conference on issues in book and serial acquisitions, reported LJ's E-Views bloggerrnCheryl LaGuardia, just wasn't very stimulating this timernaround. Of the sessions she attended, one was excellentrn(concerning usability testing and focus groups), and thernrest "were not very exciting or informative."rnOne was particularly disappointing; "several high-rnlevel administrators outlined their visions of the futurernof libraries, which were not terribly imaginative or far-reaching, and were, frankly, downright depressing." Given the conference theme of "The Best of Times, the Worst of Times," the emphasis seemed to be on the latter.rnLaGuardia suggested the conference might do better to return to its roots: "concentrating on the nitty-gritty, practical side of librarianship."
