摘要

Library professionals are under pressure to demonstrate the value and impact of their services. Evidence-based library and information practice (EBLIP) encourages librarians to approach operations with a questioning perspective that leads to improvement. Editors Kou-fogiannakis (librarian, Univ. of Alberta) and Brettle (Univ. of Salford) have been involved in EBLIP scholarship since the early 2000s. In the first part of their book, they trace the development of EBLIP and propose a revised framework for libraries that is holistic and practice oriented. There is a chapter on each component of the model: articulate, assemble, assess, agree, and adapt. In the second part, contributors from academic, public, health, school, and special libraries from around the world offer a practitioner-researcher perspective. Each chapter provides an overview on how EBLIP can be implemented in that setting, along with case studies. In one study, teacher librarians in Shanghai apply research findings on children's reading motivation to inform how they encourage reading in the school. Evidence is observed in student dramatization of stories and in their drawings that represent what they read. VERDICT Library administrators and assessment librarians will welcome this focus on practice and application of EBLIP in a variety of settings and places.-Judy Solberg, Sacramento, CA
