National Seminar on Open Access on Textual and Multimedia Content: Bridging the Digital Divide: brief report

The national seminar focused on open access of textual and multimedia content looking at collaboration between two inter-university centres of the University Grants Commission (UGC), INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) Center in Ahmedabad and the Center for Educational Communication (CEC) in New Delhi. The program was held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on 29-30 January 2009. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Yash Pal, National Research Professor and former Chairman, UGC. Prof. Yash Pal focused on the need to give a fresh look at curriculum development activities, with an aim to develop quality education and creativity with students especially those residing in rural and remote parts of the country. He emphasized the need to impart knowledge that has tangible applications and for multi-disciplinary research on self-learning skills for learners. He noted that INFLIBNET and CEC can have a greater influence for applying technology to connect people, information, knowledge, ideas and wisdom.
