TILA was officially formed in 2008 and represents most of the major leather making operations in the country. Taiwan is an island off of the South Eastern coast of mainland China with a population of 23 million and has been a centre of leather making over the past four decades. Although their roots are firmly planted in Taiwan many leather businesses have moved off the island and established Taiwanese owned tanneries in China, Vietnam, Thailand and, in the near future, Indonesia.
