Effectiveness Of Various Support Measures For Leather Industry Development Acknowledged

With the Seventeenth India International Leather Fair getting under way in Chennai on January 31st, the Chairman of the Council for Leather Exports conveyed a hearty welcome to the Hon'ble Minister of Commerce & Industries of the Government of India who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr.Irshad Mirza expressed his happiness at having other Government Officials, Representa-tives of Trade and various foreign delegates at the inauguration of this annual event which has now come to be recognised as a landmark for the Indian leather sector. In his address on the occasion, Mr.Mirza took the opportunity to bring some of the immediate concerns of the industry which requires to be addressed, especially in the adequate preparation of the entire leather industry sector to the new WTO regime. He also made an appeal to the Government to consider some more policy changes which would be appropriate at the present juncture.
