A commitment to being overwhelmingly honest is the foundation of a resilient organization. Our recent book ROAR: How to Build a Resilient Organization the World-Famous San Diego Zoo Way explains how sitting down with one another and delivering a message that may disturb the harmony in the workplace is worth it in the end for the sake of building resilience. Employees, volunteers, and donors are more likely to follow the organization for being honest rather than blind-siding everyone with the truth. Having these conversations requires respect, courage, and the ability to put the issue on the table.
