摘要

My (Ed's) study of leadership models began in 2002, when after 20 years as a senior executive, I joined academia and created the Values-Based Leadership Institute at Emory University's Goizueta Business School. In searching for the secret leadership sauce of high performance organizations, I kept coming back to the fact that effective business leaders generally are people whom others trust in varying degrees to make the best decisions, do the right thing, and produce the desired results. Leaders are people whom we choose to follow because we believe they'll take us to better places and will do us no harm. Underlying this belief is the assumption that our chosen leaders know best where to go or what to do, and underlying that ability is a critical factor: that the world is reasonably predictable and linear.
