According to BNAmericas, Mexico-based transport and communications ministry (SCT) is planning to conduct auctions for five frequency bands, including the ones for WiMAX and 3G services, over the next 45 days. These five spectrum bands are 3.4GHz-3.7GHz for WiMAX; 1.9GHz and 1.7GHz/2.1GHz for 3G cellular services; 71 GHz/81 GHz for wireless broadband backhaul) and 410MHz/430MHzfor the signaling systems to be used by trains. The SCT has told Cofetel to conduct the auctions within 180 days. The auctions are likely to fetch $1 billion for the Mexican government.
